What does it mean "bullet proof engine"?

Does "bullet proof engine" (like in honda rebel) mean

1. the engine is very reliable that it doesn't cause any breakdowns and runs rock solid

or

2. they are really bullet proof.

its just an old saying we use to use back when we had an engine built good or you have an engine that has proven to be a good engine,like some of the older 318 engines that chrysler had we use to say that about those, it just means its a really good engine and will hold up  better than others will,like some of the toyota engines they use to say that about some of those,it just means its  really durable and will last good,, good luck.
