ok so I am a little curious... I am trying to apply for something and says you need to be a legal resident of the US... what does that mean? is it the same thing as being a US citizen? I am a citizen (by Naturalization). Don't have a green card. Does legal resident mean that I have to have a permanent address?

  1. If you are a Citizen by birth or Naturalization then yes you are a legal resident. Heck if you were still here with a green card you would be legally residing in the U.S. It's more against them illegal immigrants.

  2. yep! I agree with what Janice said.

  3. It has nothing to do with having a permanent address. For a job you just list where you live at the time of application. People move so it is no big deal.

All it is asking is if one has a green card giving permanent residency, been naturalized or US born. Basically that one has the right to live and work in the US forever with no restrictions.

  4. What this means is you are either a natural born citizen or you are a person who is legally in this country.  You are as much a citizen as someone born here because you have been naturalized.  Before that time you were a legal resident because you had a green card.  You do not need a permanent address but it would help.
