I've known about "autism" for a while and I'm still confused by it's meaning. Could someone explain in detail what it means so I can understand it better?

  1. well it is many things

    some are non verbal

some are very sensitive to noise, also to light

some are sensitive to differant tastes, and eat only certain things

    some have social skills problems

    that may help a bit

  2. autism is a sensory disorder, its very complex and no two people with autism are the same. this is the national website for Autism. it should explain everything.

  3. Autistic disorder (also called autism; more recently described as "mindblindedness") is a neurological and developmental disorder that usually appears during the first three years of life. A child with autism appears to live in his/her own world, showing little interest in others, and a lack of social awareness. The focus of an autistic child is a consistent routine and includes an interest in repeating odd and peculiar behaviors. Autistic children often have problems in communication, avoid eye contact, and show limited attachment to others.

  4. Children with autism have a much harder time expressing and communicating their feelings towards others. Autistic children often appear to be emotionless and self absorbed, and react very negatively to sudden change in their environment. Being frightened is a very terrible experience for an autistic child, as they are unable to cope with the emotion of fear.

When dealing with autistic children you must be very patient and realise that although they might seem cold on the outside, they are every bit as human as you are.

  5. I'm not entirely sure; I know it's some sort of severe speech impediment but I dunno if it affects the brain or learning.
