  1. Everybody agrees (they acclaim) that you are the nominee without the vote of each individual voter having been taken.

  2. The most frequent type of acclamation is a voice vote, in which the voting group is asked who favors and who opposes the proposed candidate. In the event of a lack of opposition, the candidate is considered elected.

This form of election is most commonly associated with papal elections, though this method was discontinued by Pope John Paul II's apostolic constitution Universi Dominici Gregis.

There are three methods of election of the Pope, the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church. These are election by scrutiny, election by compromise and election by acclamation. There is no voting process involved in the method of election by acclamation, which is also known as quasi-inspiration.

In the process of election of acclamation or election by quasi-inspiration, one of the candidates is unanimously proclaimed as the Supreme Pontiff. It is done without obtaining the prior consultation or negotiation. In the past, this was looked upon as an order that came from the Holy Spirit. Hence it is known as election by quasi-inspiration.

It is also sometimes found in the context of parliamentary decisions, or United States presidential nominating conventions.

In Canada, a candidate for a parliamentary, legislative or municipal position is said to be elected by acclamation if he or she has no opponents for the seat, an eventuality that rarely occurs except for legislative elections in the northern territories and municipal elections.

At general meetings in listed companies in Sweden, shareholders often vote by acclamation.

So, in other words, instead of hashing it out, voting by acclamation means to go by general consensus, which greatly saves time and effort, especially when the majority is already assumed.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Instead of counting the individual votes and adding them up, you just take a voice vote ( Yay - Nay ) and speed up the process.
