What does it mean to be someone's Valentine?

Like when someone asks u...do u want to be my valentine? What does being someones valentine mean? =)

i don't agree with valentines day, it's actually depressing if you know what it is.

it was a day that people from ireland were mass murdered by the catholic church (st. valentine)

don't believe me look it up on wikipedia.

but anyways, it means that person like you.

When I was in school it meant that you usually got them a gift and they got you and at some point there was an exchange, also you spent the day with your valentine at some point in the day maybe at lunch or during recess
