What does it mean to have a high Basketball IQ? And how do you use it?

When I play I always hear I have a high IQ but never use it. What does it exactly mean? And how do you use it?

Considering its basketball, if you can properly spell your own name, then you have a high basketball IQ. Most basketball players are not rocket scientist as we all know and just to be able to know how to tie your own shoes, then you quality mentally to play the sport of basketball. Basketball just turns out that its not a sport that attacks the brilliant type of athletes.

I am not really sure, but a basketball IQ may mean how much you know of the game and it's rules or what type of plays would work in different situations or what to do in certain spots. How to use it would just to be making smart desicions.

It means you know how to play the game, different strategies and stuff, but you stick to the original.

It means you have very good  basketball knowledge but when it comes to basketball it's almost like you dont really have it....becuz you dont use it!

It means you understand the game and how it is to be played. It's so much more than just offense and defense.

it means you have the ability to recognize and use tactics at your disposal such as play recognition on defense, using fundamentals to your advantage, etc.

if someone says that to you, they're saying you know the game well but you don't use that knowledge like you should to be even better.

For example, one with a high basketball IQ will probably recognize a PG coming down the middle of the court, the rest of the team spread out.  He'll notice that they're probably isolating you so you call it out to your team and let them know whats going on to have the best possibility of stopping them.  From there, you look at his eyes, feet, body movements and can probably predict what he/she'll do.

guys like Pistol Pete, Magic and Larry were always held up as EXCELLENT examples of high BB IQ...they had the unique ability to be PLAYS ahead of the game in progress, like a great chess champion being many moves ahead of their competitors...
