  1. well your baby/you usually pushes-to get the BM out...and sometimes that can hurt and cause a tear- .

If it was alot of blood Id go to a doctor...

but if it was a few spots. id say he/you just hurt yourself/himself whille pooping..

  2. if it is for a baby, it usually means they have allergies, or worse. you should call his or her doc and let them know what they saw.  If it is for you it could mean many things..including himroids, call your doc too.

  3. well, there are two possibilites. one is simply a tear in the r****m -- that can produce little dots of blood and is nothing to worry about. the second is actual blood in the stool. ruby had this. it is generally diagnosed as proctocolitis, which means, loosely, irritation of the bowel. and here is where it gets tricky. as a mom, you see blood in your baby's poo, you realize s/he is BLEEDING from the inside, and, oh my god! it's just horrible. i lost it when it happened to ruby. often, docs will recommend -- if you are breastfeeding --- that you try eliminating dairy and soy from your diet, as the irritation can evince an intolerance to dairy and soy protein. in ruby's case, i did these things, and also switched her supplemental formula to a hypoallergenic formula, and she still had blood. so we put her on a very special formual, neocate, and it stopped. however, i have found out a lot from our new pediatirican (we moved) as well as from other moms. often, as horrible as it seems, this blood, this proctocolitis, is episodic rather than chronic. that is, it is just a normal sensitivity of the immature digestive system, and no interventions are necessary. i am pretty sure that ruby was fine, and would have been fine, if we had waited it our. at the same time, i feel secure in the decision i made at the time: my little tiny baby was bleeding, and, oh my god, i just wanted her to be better. what i can tell you is, talk to your doctor. don't panic -- it is more normal than it seems -- but be vigilant. are there any other symptoms? if your baby does not seemd distressed, is not in pain, then perhaps you should wait it out, especially if s/he is very young. if s/he does seem uncomfortable, then you should decide on an intervention. either way, bring a stool sample to your doc: they will test for the presence of blood IN the stool. and know that, whichever case you are dealing with, it will be fine, and your baby will get better. good luck!

  4. that is usually an indication of allergies and intolerance, like the person above me said. i would call the pediatrician because if it is formula they may want you to switch or if you are breastfeeding they will probably tell you to cut out dairy completely (that has happened with me). good luck
