  1. dilation affects people differently, my eyes have been dilated ever since i was a baby so it doesnt hurt me as much as i might hurt you. the first time is the roughest, if your light sensitive, it hurts even more. i would bring sunglasses because your pupils are wide open and everything is going to hurt you might be seeing little dots its almost like after taking a picture and a flash goes off right in front of you. good luck and dont be scared!!

  2. getting your eyes dialated is normal when going in for a routine eye exam. it does not hurt, but they do sting for a few minutes after they are put in. it does affect your vision, but the length of time varies from person to person. sometimes it only lasts 3 hours, but in some cases can last 24. they go back to normal after the drop wears off, so dont worry about that. you will see that you will be very light sensitive, so bring a pair of sunglasses (if you dont have any, your doctor will provide you with ones that wrap around your face ;) ) and your vision probably wont be the same (especially close up). some people say it gives them a headache as well, so be prepared for that.

in our office we use a very mild drop. it has minimal effects. maybe (hopefully) your doctor will use the same one, but most use the stronger drop. good luck and dont worry.

  3. They make your pupils big with an eye drop, it doesn't hurt.  It can be hard to see outside or in bright light, can also hurt a little - like when you walk outside and it's really bright.  Take some sunglasses with you and it will help alot!  It depends on what kind of drops they use on how long they will be dilated - but after it wears off your eyes will be normal.  Usually a couple of hours.

  4. Everyone that answered is right. It's a drop that enlarges the pupil so that the doctor can see all the way to the back of the eye. He can check the retina (the very, back of the eye). I have also worked for a doctor that has found brain tumors and diagnosed other diseased like MS due to dilation. You will get the dark glasses and you will be blurry for a while. The time that your vision is blurry depends on each person. they say that people with dark eyes tend to not stay dilated as long as people with lighter colored eyes, but I have seen that, that is not always the case. No worries! Your eyes will definitely go back to normal.

  5. Wow...a lot of questions.  It just means they are going to put drops into your eyes to make the pupils bigger.  This will allow the doctor to look into your eye better.  The drops sting a little, but it quickly stops.  Just a few seconds your eyes will tear up.  They will give you dark glasses to wear after wards, or you can bring your own, as it is dangerous to go outside in the Sun with your pupils open so wide and it will hurt.  It will make your eyes feel like you need a slight prescription as your sight will be slightly blurry, but you won't be stumbling around blind.  Give it about 4 to 5 hours to wear off and you will be back to normal with no discomfort what-so-ever.  Dilating your eyes is very simple.  Nothing to get worried about.

  6. it does not hurt all he does is put ten eye drops in your eyes then tells you if you need it.to have your eyes dilated means you have a differnt eye sight~!!!!!!

  7. having your eyes dilated just means they make your pupils bigger, it won't hurt at all, they just use drops, and the only affect it will have is that it will make things seem brighter, like the sun. They may recommend you wear sunglasses but they will go back to normal in a short period
