  1. dont know anything about golf. LOL!!!

  2. While "tipping" can and does affect "feel"  it will also subtly affect the shafts kick point moving it higher by the amount of shaft removed by the tipping.

  3. When preparing a club for assembly, the tip of the shaft is lightly sanded to remove the crome finish and make a better surface for the epoxy to grab.  That is the only tipping I am aware of.

In regards flex of the shaft, there are certain shafts that have a stiff tip which provides less variation at high swing speeds.  This is a property of the shaft rather than a procedure that is done to it.

  4. The fist of doom is right. But do understand before you take your driver and other woods in for surgery. Tiger does this for feel NOT mechanics. Tiger's clubhead speed reaches 125 mph at points but he is not the longest driver on tour. The golfers that most often get their shafts tipped are longdrive champs. Their swing reaches 135-140 mph. That equals about 360-380 yards of carry. Unless you drive like that better stick to the stiffs.

  5. Thats very interesting, please expand on this.

  6. Tipping any shaft is cutting the tip (clubhead) end more than the manufacturers' recommendation for a specific flex. In Tigers' case, tipping 1/4" means trimming the flex just a little stiffer than the already X-stiff the shaft comes as from the manufacturer, but not quote enough to call it a XX-stiff. Some shaft producers make a specific flex for each individual shaft, others make a combination flex, depending on how you trim it.

You can do it to any shaft, steel or graphite, that is not a taper-tip (found usually in irons, not overly common) but check to find out exactly how much you are removing and what it may do to your ball flight.

  7. rj mack you are mostly correct. You can get the butt of your shaft lengthened. This is tipping the club. Most often done in putters.
