What does it mean to high port a drill rifle?

i've just joined NJROTC at my high school, and i was reading over the disciplinary system.

  1. Carrying a rifle at the high port means holding it over your head with both hands. Even something as light a broom will get heavy quickly. It is a sure method of getting a point across.


  2. Hold it directly over your head, arms straight up.. That weapon weighs another pound every minute.

  3. keeping the grasp of the rifle as in the on-guard position, bring the rifle to a -diagonal position across the front of the body. The muzzle pointing upwards, magazine to the front and butt sufficiently advanced to enable it to be brought instantly to the shoulder to fire.

    It's in the drill manual.

  4. IT means DO NOT s***w UP.
