What does it mean to identify with a character?

You normally identify with people that are like you in many areas, they can be people in sports, business, the arts or any field of endeavor.   You often do the things they represent and take encouragement from them to enhance your own goals.

It means you can relate well, or understand the characters actions or might even take those actions yourself. I learned that when I was doing a project in school about Chaucer. It kinda sucked.

Sort of.  If you identify with a character you may have shared similar experiences or ideas with them.  It also means you can understand why that character is feeling a certain way or why that character acted in a certain manner.

yes it does. it means you find something in common with the character, a interest or a habit ot something. you are exactly correct, it means that you can see similarities between the two of you.

  It's pretty much when you see a character, and they say, do, or think things that you thought that only you did.  Or have gone through same experiences as yourself.  Also, it could be that you feel empathy and can relate as well.  It's when you get that happy buzzy feeling that your not the only one.

It means that the character reminds you of yourself in someway, either in personality or actions.  The dictionary says to understand/sympathize with the character because you regard your self as being similarly or similarly situated.  You can easily understand and put yourself in the characters shoes and relate to them, you feel a connection to the fictional being.
