  1. Being a trapper / Hunter from Nv. To me it means the difference between skinning a hide and taking the time to to "sock

' the hide out . Skinning a hide you cut from the under jaw area to the tail. To pelt a hide I start from the rear legs and gential area and pull the skin as I go. As I pull the hide turns inside out like a sock and its eaiser to scrape and stretch it for drying. Im not near as good answering on the internet as i am trapping so if you have quetions E/Mail me and I'll give ti a try!

  2. Jane's got it. It's making it into a "pelt," which is a flat one-piece item that is the recently departed's fur, still attached to its skin. Pelts are used to make fur coats, coon-skin caps, those funny furry boots chicks wear around Houston in winter, bear-rugs, and anything else where fur needs to be cloth.

For obvious reasons, the animal is killed first (usually during capture). We don't just let naked, skinless animals run around. That wouldn't be very nice. Most pelts are of animals that were raised or hunted for food, rather than just killing them for their fur.

  3. What Jane said.

  4. it means to take it for the fur and to take the fur and make it for like to it doesnt rot or it means to like pelt it with a bb gun idk what your thing about but itson of those too

  5. It is just another word for skinning.  Just read any trapping book and you will understand,

The whole process begins with killing the animal.  Then it is skinned and fleshed.  Fleshing is simply removing the fat, muscle, and gristle from the hide.  Once this is done the hide is stretched on s stretcher of wire or wood, then dried.  This preserves the hide so it can be sold to a fur dealer and later tanned and turned into garments.

  6. The pelt is the animal's hide with the hair on it.  so, to pelt an animal, although I haven't heard it referred to in this way, would mean to remove the hide from an animal

  7. to skin it so that it so that it doesn't rot

  8. skin it and cure the skin
