I know that people tell you to look on the bright side and think positively, but how can you do so when you can't find anything to be positive about? When I am angry or upset, there is no way that i can think positively because I'm just too into the moment. Almost as if the emotion controls me, which i know is not a good thing. But when i do try, I can't come up with anything that can make me feel a lot less upset.

  1. Have you heard of or seen a film called, "Pollyanna"?  A bit old fashioned but u cud try & watch it - it really changes your perspective on things :)  It is about a little girl who changes a whole town around to be positive.  She does it by finding something to be glad about in every situation, even the bad ones.

Better than anyone telling you "how" to be positive is to see it in this film.  I will really help you :))

  2. Honestly....... it means the person saying that to you hasn't a clue how you feel. Thinking positive is a good strategy in general but it does not help "in the moment". Kinda like taking a vitamin C to cure the flu. It's not going to do a thing to the flu but over the long term it can help you avoid illness.

  3. When we are in a bad place mentally/emotionally most people have a lot of trouble even realizing they should try to find something positive to get them out of it.

What I think about when I want to get myself out of a bad feeling is realizing how lucky I am to even being able to get pissed, and feel, think, say what I want. We are alive, we are here, now it is up to our own selves to live it as a happy person or a sad person.

It took me a long time to realize that it was that simple sometimes.

  4. No matter how negative your situation is, I betcha there's someone out there is a worse place than you are. However, that is not important. In fact, not much of what we do makes things the way they are. There are giant forces beyond your control in the universe that are just perfectly balanced for us to survive. We can be thankful to be in the small percentage of the population of the world to even have an internet connection. Without that, you wouldn't even be able to post this question. You probably aren't running for your life in the middle of a war zone like some other people are right now. That's just the way things are, and we really didn't try that hard to make them that way. Aren't you glad, though, at least to be alive and to have the privileged life that you do? I certainly am!

  5. Come on, you can't think of ANYTHING positive?

I am a very emotional person too, I used to get really worked up about things and claim that I couldn't see anything positive in a situation, but I was just giving in to negative thinking and behaviour, languishing in it like I didn't have a choice.

Surround yourself with positive people, first of all. If you are negative, and there are positive people all around you, it is hard to stay that way. It makes sense: negative people encourage negativity, positive people don't.

That whole 'counting to ten' thing works for me sometimes. While I am counting to ten, I try to let my body relax (can't have a calm mind when you have a tense body) and 'let go' of the anxiety. It takes a bit of practice, but it works okay.

Finally, think about the situation and try to imagine how much it really matters in the grand scheme of things. If it is pretty insignificant, it is then easy to turn it around. Think about the fact that you grew inside another human being, were born, got bigger and bigger and learned more and more from mistakes and life in general: and you STILL can't see ANY positives in your life/the situation?

If you are affected, try and get away from what is causing it. I mean, if you're standing in a cloud of smog, you're not going to see the sunshine, right? Take a break, a breath and try and think about things rationally, rather than let them snowball in your head. It takes effort on your part and that's why some people are incapable of it.

I have gone from a worrying, negative person who can only see the negative, to a person who believes whole-heartedly in balance and can see both sides of the situation, so it's not impossible, unless you convince yourself that it is.

    Good luck.

  6. think of what a dumb ***** you look like huffing and puffing about something thats prolly stupid, thats what I do, and it works,
