What does it mean to "be able to see through others, but not let others see through you"?

i read this quote somewhere and found it interesting, but i don't quite understand what it means to "see through" people, etc. can someone explain how this can be done?

  1. There are two parts to this quote.

    1.) You can see more than just the 'outer layer' of a person. you are able to see into their personality and figure out who they really are.

    2.) You do not like others to know the real you. You have more of a closed personality than an open one.


  2. I think it means you can tell if a person is acting fake or has a hidden agenda even if they are putting on a "nice-guy" persona, but perfecting your own persona so that even if you are manipulating someone to get what you want they won't realize it.

  3. Think of poker. It is clearly advantageous to be able to "read" your opponents and good for you to hide from being read BY them.
