What does it mean to "non op" your car?

and can you drive it when it is "non opped" ?

  1. In CA, Non-op means you register your car and notify the DMV, that it's not on the road.  AND, it doesn't have to have insurance.

    So no, you can't drive a car with a non op (non-operational) registration.  You have to re-register it.  And buy insurance.


  2. No, a Non-Op is a statement that you submit to the DMV claiming your car is not operational and won't be on the road so  you don't have to register your car when it's due.

    You can't drive it until you register it, presumably after it is operational, so really, if there is a non-op in place and your car is not registered, then of course you can't drive it during that time.
