  1. Drivers on probation have to stay out of trouble.  This is the best explanation I could find:

" And although NASCAR would not elaborate what it meant, the sanctioning body is stiffening its definition of what probation actually means.

"We're going to redefine what probation means, and they clearly understand that," said NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter. "A similar situation like this involving either of these drivers they understand what might happen, without getting into nailing down for you guys (in the media) what we will do if that happens."

So I guess it means whatever NASCAR wants it to mean.  It's good to be NASCAR.  :  )

  2. Probation is a way for Nascar to penalize without really penalizing.  Nascar has to love stuff like that when it happens.  It's great for the sport and ratings.  But they have to appear to be against it.  They certainly could not openly encourage that type of behavior.

  3. When nascar feels that it isn't necessary to penalize racers by interfering with points, they put the drivers on probation. Basically, the drivers must stay out of trouble and drive a CLEAN RACE.

  4. What it all really boils down to is the fact that NASCAR doesn't want to fine, or dock points from the front-runners in the chase for fear of repercussions from the fans. It is a half-hearted attempt to discipline drivers without costing them points, or money.

It seems funny to me, that NASCAR goes to great lengths to define everything down to the last detail to eliminate "gray areas" with regards to the car, but they leave themselves huge gray areas to work with when it is convenient to NASCAR.....

Grow a sack, boys, and do what's right!

  5. No, it means that if you do something wrong (fight, intentionally wrecking, etc.) during the probation period, you're in trouble with NASCAR.

  6. Means they are warned and being watched closer by nascar for any further trouble they may of caused in a past race

  7. It's a warning.

  8. Not much at all, most drivers I have ever seen go on probation ever have anything else happen to them, do you think nascar could afford to say suspend, gordon, stewart or other big names? Fans would raise kayne.....get it,,,,kayne

  9. I am not exactly sure to be honest with you. But I think that it is either the driver gets points or maybe kind of like suspension?? I am not sure sorry. I know but I forgot.
