  1. it means that the bolt is usually used to help line something up like a head or an intake,the taper helps to line them up,normal bolts don't have a taper on them,only bolts used to align things or parts need to be in perfect alignment will have tapered heads on them,good luck.

  3. My husband who has been in construction for 25 years says it could mean that it is a lock nut bolt and most of the time the size is metric.
