What does it mean when a guy wants a break in a relationship?

My bf wants a break and says hes been stressed out trying to quit smoking and that he needs to focus on him until he can focus on us again...

Im ******* confused here, and Id like a guy's answer on this wtf does a break mean???? Does it mean he wants to end things but this sounds nicer or he just doesnt have the guts to breakup or what??? Plz help! And by the way I told him I understand and respect that and Ill give him time for himself...was that good to say?

well i quit and didnt need a break so maybe he needs a break from u and wants to find some flings then come back to you when he is done

I am not a dude, but I would say he either wants to break up, or he has another girl he would like to check out, without actually cheating.

Sometime a guy does need a break maybe he's overwhelmed by stress right now and will come to you later at any rate its best to leave him alone but never miss your chance to show your love and support

It means he wants to secretly get with other girls, and if he doesn't find any he permanently likes, call you up again.

Sad but true. Girls say that nice guys finish last, so most guys have little motivation to be nice.

he just wants some from someone else. and your his backup if it doesnt work, but if it does, he'll leave you for good.

Since you have agreed to give him some time for himself, you need to respect that.  Bear in mind that the time he needs may in fact be "from now on..."

You already know that it is not possible to MAKE somebody love you and stay with you.  If he wants to move on you have to accept it.  Try to not let your heart get broken - I know it will be hard.

he needs time just for himself and his future, cus if his future is not good then his family's future isnt gonna be good either, he wants to quit smoking so he wants try stay healthy and keep u healthy
