What does it mean when a misdemeanor is expunged?

Does it mean that, if I am asked if I have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, I can say no?

  2. It means the court orders all the agencies with records of the event to redact anything in it that would identify you. They may send the file materials to the court and show the court how they have redacted computer records. Even the court complies by removing and destroying your motion to expunge. Essentially, it didn't happen. You do have to be careful to list all the agencies with records, although the state criminal history recorder will notify the FBI of the action to prevent a conflict between the two databases.
