Recently some friends and I visited a restaurant/bar in Thomaston, CT and on the outside on the glass it said in white "No Smoking", and above no smoking it said "No Colors". What do they mean by no colors?

  1. It is a naked restaurant and everybody has to take off their clothes so they all look the same as everybody else.  Makes perfect sense.

  2. It means that they do not want people in their sports team colours or in their gang colours, it is not racist.

  3. well living in the deep south in the 1920-60s it meant no blacks allowed but due to your location and the fact that you went recently I have no idea, but I got two points for this answer so i'm ok

  4. It probably means they have a black and white dress code.

  5. The only sure answer would be to ask the owner and/or manager of the establishment.  The general definition, however, is a referral to motorcycle club vests which display the logo or symbol representative of that particular club.  This would also apply to persons affiliated with other clubs supporting interests that the members all enjoy and support.  I, fortunately, have not heard the term "colors" in regard to race during my lifetime and hope that I never will.

  6. No people of color. Basicly its means only white people.

  7. Just taking a guess here, but could they possibly have been refering to gang members?  I know some gangs have gang colors and perhaps they didn't want them bringing any of that gang stuff into the restaurant.

  8. Back in the seventies I was riding on  a charter bus filled with union reps, heading  to down town  Detroit to watch a Tiger baseball game, Watching out the window at the passing stores and bars, I see the same sign, NO COLORS I was so shocked and upset over this. Everyone was laughing at me, NO BIKERS they told me! I guess you can take the girl out of the country, but you can not take the country out of the girl

  9. i sure hope its nothing racial, its embarrassing when stuff like that still happens.

  10. They could be possibly getting away with racism.

  11. beware the chef lacks imagination.

  12. No gang colors.

Not a racist sign, simply in place to keep fights from breaking out in the bar.

  13. it could be a racist resturant and mean no colored folks...

  14. no gang colors.  Reds=bloods, blue = crips.  Yellow/black = hornets.  pink = lady vice lords

  15. that was towards biker gangs, or possibly gangs in general. biker gangs where certain jackets that they call they're colors as well as street gangs have they're own colors

  16. They don't want people to wear gang colors, because they don't want gangs tearing up the place.

If they meant black people then the sign would have read "No Coloreds" or "No Coloureds"

  17. it's a fancy place. just black/white/grey.

  18. No colors meaning no black people.

And I suggest that if that is in the window.

    Someone should know.

    Thats illegal.

  19. Gang colors, the first I ever saw that I was taken back too, until I was told what it for.

For all you people who think it means no black people, wise up. Even when I saw it on a restaurant door in new york I was smart enough to know it wasn't racist.

  20. No Gangs I have never seen that sign in a restaraunt how interesting I am giving you a star
