What does it mean when commentators refer to runners as 'having a kick'?

  1. Maybe it means that they had a spurt of energy...?


  2. It's an extra spurt of energy one doesn't usually have in a race. For some it just comes natural.

  3. In the distance races it just means the have extra energy, maybe a sprint left in them at the end of the race.
