What does it mean when deck wood is blue? if it's pressure-treated or something, what does that mean?

I see it described in "going green" stories as the best choice, but I need further explanation, like what to do with it? Can it be painted, etc.?

  1. OK, I never heard of blue wood. Pressure treated means it has been treated with chemicals to resist moisture for longer life. It can be painted but, deck stain is better and can be dyed to almost any color and will help with long life expectancy.

  2. I believe blue wood is home framing lumber... treated to be somewhat bugproof as well as resistant to molds....
