What does it mean when it says DRL on the dash of my VW jetta SE?

Daytime running lamps.  You will see the image or notice disappear when you turn on the regular headlamps, which are brighter;  and a chime/buzzer reminds you to turn them off, if you forget.

Daytime Running Lights - it a so called "safety feature" but the dealer doesnt pay when the light bulbs fry!!! you have to replace them by your own cost and if they are xenon's then they dont come cheap!

Day time running lamps.  This is the feature that has your headlamps but not your tail lamps on during the day
