What does it mean when it says on an actor's resume that they are a "belter"?

Belting is singing in your more powerful chest voice in a higher range where you could switch into head voice.  A lot of the more recent musicals call for big belting - "Defying Gravity" from Wicked is a song where the singer belts almost all the way through - if you listen to it you should be able to hear what I mean.  If it's done incorrectly it can damage the voice irrepably, it's something that needs to have the technique correctly taught.

I suppose it can mean something else but I take it to mean they can do a very strong and projecting voice.   Ethel Mermen, Bernadette Peters, and Beth Midler are belters of songs.
