In a document from England in the 1400's (ish) It says that if you rob someone, you pay 40s. Is this a fine? If so how much?

  1. s is for shilling.

    seems to be a fine,

a shilling was a lot of money  in those days. You can think of a shilling as the price of a cow. (that was the value in about 1000 AD)

    interesting document.

have lots of fun with it.
