Question:

What does it mean when my ABS light is on (I have a 2004 ford mustang) and also the trac off button is lit up?

Last night, my car started acting strange. All the lights in my car went dim (but didn't go completely off). Then, the ABS lit up and Trac off button lit up. My stereo turned off, as well. Today, it just turned off, and we took it to a shop where they replaced the battery. The car hasn't turned off again or anything, but the ABS light and trac off button went on again. Should I be concerned?? I don't know what that means for my car.

  1. i knew it it was a brakes system below is what your talking about :

Maintenance Tips/Suggestions: When turning the ignition switch to the on position, the amber BRAKE, ANTILOCK or ABS light on the instrument panel should glow momentarily, and then turn off. If the light stays on or flashes, or comes on while driving, it indicates a fault in the ABS system. Have your car's ABS system inspected immediately by a professional technician to determine the source of the problem.

and yeah its a concern :)

  2. it could be a bad fuse or a sensor. There are so many parts these days. Have a mechanic check your ABS system for faulty components. Even if the ABS isn't working properly doesn't mean your brakes won't work. It just means that the anti lock feature isn't going to work. We drove cars for decades without ABS and got by fine.

  3. more the likely it is a low voltage code. try disconnecting the battery for five minutes then reconnecting it. have the charging system checked. if that doesn't clear it have the codes read.

but it sounds to me like your alternator is bad not the battery.
