  1. if you just recently got the cat, its probably looking for its brothers and sisters, thats what my cat did when i got it.

He could just be a vocal cat and letting you know where he is.

If it continues you should call the vet, just to see if everythings OK.

  2. My cat does that, too. I think it's just to get attention. Cats can make more than 15 types of sounds. Being the fact that they are smart creatures, as soon as they realize they are getting some sort of attention from you because of a certain type of meow they made, they just keep doing it.  If your cat knows he gets attention by meowing this way then he'll most likely keep doing. Remember, meowing is their way of communicating with humans. They use other sounds to communicate among themselves.

Sometimes, meowing as though they were in pain means they want food, water or playtime. You said he isn't hungry or thirsty. To me he just wants attention or is trying to make a statement.  Whereas we think they meow painfully, to them it's just another way to get attention or converse with their humans. Start playing with him and you'll see he stops.

  3. Depends on the tone, it could be that he caught a present for you and wants to show it off to you! Nice!

Does he wander away from you if you go to pick him up? If he does follow him and he'll lead you to the gesture!

  4. He might be in some sort of pain that you can't see, like a problem on the inside.  You could call your vet and take him in and make sure he's all okay.  But this "sad tone" might just be another one of his unique mews, and he's just being vocal with you. Try sitting down and talking to him too.
