Does this mean that my fax has not been sent successfully?

I think your fax was NOT sent.  Do you have the manual that came with the fax?  It's your best bet.

If it was sent I think it would say something like,

pages 02

fax transmission successful

It you don't have the manual, go to the company web site and download it.

Here's a troubleshooting checklist-

Is the phone line connected?

Is the phone line a working number?

Is your "call waiting" disengaged?- it will hamper a fax transmission

Is the number you sent the fax to a valid fax number? - try to dial it from a good phone line- do you hear a fax tone when it answers?

Was it a new machine you bought?  Or was it  something someone threw out?  That might be the answer.
