Question:

What does it mean when someone, specifically a coworker, says this?

The other day when I was heading out to lunch a coworker mentioned that I might need my umbrella since it had been raining. I told him I had it with me just in case so I don't melt. In response he said "Well you do realize that s**t doesn't melt, it floats?" He said it in front of everyone and they all started laughing (except for the guy who said it) so hard they almost fell down. I wasn't laughing either because I thought he was telling me that I'm a piece of s**t. Is my thinking correct? ...or does it mean something else?

  1. Let...me...stop...laughing...first.

Sorry, but I couldn't help myself.

    ...still *laughing hysterically*

You were correct in your thinking. I would take it as an insult if someone said that to me, either that or they found it comical and thought you would as well. Unless the person saying it was just plain mean and hateful he would not have said it unless he felt comfortable enough with you and thought you were on the same wavelength.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *clunk* I just fell out of my chair from laughing so hard. Sorry.

It's hard to believe anyone could be so DENSE. What is your position...receptionist? ....because your question is about as stupid as every receptionist I ever met.

...and YES your thinking is correct. Have you considered that maybe you actually ARE a piece of s**t? *grins and laughs*

  3. I think your thinking is about right on. And it sounds like your co workers are pretty sh--ty, themselves!

  4. ouch!  I guess that had to hurt.  Sounds like that person doesn't like you.  It was rude to do that in front of everyone else too.

  5. that is exactly what it means, and though it is not a nice thing to say a lot of people have that kind of sense of humor. I doubt if it was meant personally against you, but if you really think this person doesn't like you then I would just tell him that even though everyone else thought it was funny, you don't appreciate being the subject of his jokes and if he could next time not say anything that makes your coworkers look at you as anything but a coworker it would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Your thinking is definitely correct.... that was a very rude thing to say. Hopefully he was just doing it to be funny, but if I heard that at work I would find it in bad taste.

  7. It's just a humorous expression. I doubt he meant anything by it.

  8. No, it's pretty strait forward.  He's calling you a piece of s**t.

  9. Unfortunately thats correct. If he wasnt laughing and you two arent close then thats what he was saying! Sorry.

  10. yep you are correct on this one. You should have had a comeback like, So I take it if the olympics had a floating contest you would take the gold.

  11. You were correct.

  12. sounds that way to me you should talk to the co worker or your boss about it.

  13. he was insulting you.

    I'd report his ***.

  14. Yes ur thinking is correct. That was very rude.

  15. It sounds like a mega-insult to me.

  16. I just read other people's comments. My God, you're all so up-tight !! I'm guessing by the time of the posts that most of you are Americans. No wonder your country is overrun with court cases and litigation. Lighten the **** up people !!

He was being a smart ****. Take it in your stride. If everyone else laughed, and he was straight faced, it probably means he has mastered the art of the deadpan delivery. It's just office humour. Learn to deal with it, and most importantly, learn to throw it back.

  17. i would of told him off "Well you do realize that s**t doesn't melt, it floats" he is  calling u a piece of s**t

  18. Your correct in your assumption, he was referring to you as ****.

  19. Unfortunately yes, ur thinking is correct. But, he may have just been joking around and not being serious about it. If it bothers you I would just tell him that you didnt appreciate his comment and the embarrasment in front of everyone. Hopefully he will understand and apologize. :)

  20. Yes it was an insult, right in the kisser.  I'd report his sorry @ss for such childish behaviour.

  21. Yes it was an insult.

Your proper response should have been, "In that case, you should have no problem floating out to your car in the parking lot."

  22. Yes, he was implying you are a ****. Hopefully it was meant as a joke (do others in your workplace joke around with each other?). I would take this guy aside and tell him that you didn't appreciate his little joke at your expense. If this guy is a real jerk or has something against you, this may not work. The next step is to go the next level - talk to the boss or human resources department.

Or you can just ignore it and see if it happens again. Then talk to him and/or the HR dept.

  23. What an azz.......that is what he meant all right. No other way to take it.

  24. It means he's a jerk. Superglue his coffee mug to his desk or something.

  25. He was making a joke at your expense. If you are offended you might tell him that you didn't appreciate it and hope he won't do it again.

  26. nope u were correct! thats messed up! kick their ***! wait for them in the parking lot after and beat em with ur umbrella and see if they float!!!
