What does it mean when someone "lives way deep down inside themselves"?

Generally I would imagine this would refer to an extremely introverted personality .... someone who doesn't socialise much or share their innermost thoughts and concerns with another .... they appear outwardly to be self-sufficient with no need of help or intervention from anyone else, in fact they may even aggressively fend off any attempt by anyone to try to get close to them...... they possibly, even in the midst of other people, seem alone and isolated.....these people are generally insecure and unhappy and their way of dealing with this is to turn inwards as a form of protection against being hurt.... a bit like a hedgehog rolls up when under threat.....they are self-protecting by putting up what seems like an inpenetrable wall against the world ....

    you know, like when your friend says something like :

    "bob is way down up off in there today, isn't he?"
