loss in the family. It will tear the two of you apart. For a few years after that you will be lost, drowning in your work. You will find great success in work , with that a new boss. why would that tear us apart, why can we work it out

We all hit rough patches. We all have losses in our families. We all try to focus on life & living after a death.

Whoever said this to you was quoting the obvious on these facts for starters. "2nd - he/she has no right to say that you & your partner will be unable to cope with the traumas of life. This is an opinion nothing more. Of course you can both work anything out together if you choose to.
