What does it mean when someone says peace out?

This one girl says peace out. I think it means bye.. is there anything more to the words peace out??? Is it ok to say it?

I never liked the whole peace out thing, it origonated from hippies in the 70's and I hate hipies.

it pisses me off. people always say it and i think it's fake and trying to act cool and it bothers me. i think it's more masculine than feminine. usually guys say it to act cool. but say it if it humps your camel.

My husband says that all the time and I never know what to say back. It means bye, I guess, just like when people say "later." And, yes its ok to say.
