What does it mean when someone says "we'll see where we are at"?

In the context of a person trying to get a lover back after a long time, and finally this is what they say, that in a few weeks we can "see where we are at."

  1. I wouldn't be too worried about this response.

    I think this means that they just want to go with the flow, and see how things unravel. It sounds like they may have been hurt in the past (by you, or someone else) and are kind of skeptical...

    Maybe, they don't want to make any empty promises, or maybe they are just not overly interested and trying to let you down easy.

    Make a good effort to make plans- even if she seems to be playing hard to get or seems overly busy.

  2. It just means, not making anything official. Taking it day by day, and if it works well, then theres a possiblity it could  happen again, if not, the its just not happening. You just have to see.

  3. It basically means:

    "We can try it out for a while, and in a few weeks, we can see how we are working out together."
