What does it mean when someone says that there "just trying to get under your skin"?

my ex has been putting up AIM away messages, saying that. And I'm not sure what he's trying to do or say to me.

  1. It comes from the "south" part of the US.  There is a more prevelent bug down there called a chigger.  A chigger burrows under your skin and bugs you.  It means trying to annoy you.


  2. He's trying to irritate you, sounds childish
