What does it mean when someone says they have colors?

I'm assuming it has something to do with alcohol restrictions, but I'm not sure.

My best guess (that's what it means when there's a sign at a bar "no colors" means don't wear the gang colors in the bar to avoid fighting)

LMAO! The only thing I can think of is they are affiliated with a gang.

Usually that is a gang thing.  the only relation to alcohol I can think of is when you are on probation and are ordered to go into the corrections office weekly for a random PBT test.  You call a phone number everyday and if they call the color that your probation officer assigned you, that means you have to report for a PBT by the end of the day.  I was on probation and when they call my color, I had to test that day.

Colors means that you are ,in a certain gang realted party. If I were you I would not wear gang colors in the middle of Oakland, CA. Colors are what get other gang members killed.
