What does it mean when someone says to Grow Up ?

As an adult i know many adults who act worse than children on a regular basis and certainly dont act grown up ..Usually people who tell others to grow up need a great deal of growing up to do ..

Having a job doesn't make you mature

Having kids does not make you mature

Paying bills does not make you mature

What then does it mean to be grown up ?

I am 38 years old, and the mother of three children ages 17 1/2, 14, and 10 years of age. There are times when I have to confess to my husband that I need to grow up. It is during those times when I admit that I was being  selfish, self-centered, and urealistic.

If I don't get up and go to work on time, I am being immature. If I don't set the right example for my children, I am being immature. If I go buy new clothes, eat out instead of cook the food in my house, and gamble my money away at the casino, instead of pay my bills, I am immature. If I cannot grasp the reality of the fact that I am not a child, and should not act as a child, and that nobody is going to carry my load for me in life, then I need to grow up.

Denzel Washington said it best, "we do what we have to do so we can do what we want to do."

So basically, if you know what you are supposed to do, and you choose not to do it, then you need to grow up.

It means to become more mature minded.  You know, like hanging out with people of the same age and having a meaningful discusion rather than playing football with the younger boys.  I know one guy who is in his 30's that does that and has been told to grow up many times.  

I don't think you have to be "grown up" at all times - you should still have fun at times but you need to know the time and place for each.

It is a  combination of  doing  the right  thing,  being polite, helping  others, paying  debts, not  hurting  others, being a  good  example to younger  persons, staying  out of  trouble and if  can't then pay  the due for your actions.

Well, all of those things require you to be more mature. You need to be mature, discipline your children properly, don't slack off at work, and pay your bills on time or early. Just having a job does not make you mature, but doing a GOOD job, and being punctual and assertive does. Having kids does not make you mature, but raising your kids right and disciplining them does. Paying bills does not make you mature, but paying them early or on time does. You just have to be assertive. Do more than 100%.  Children skimp on chores, or do the minimum. Adults should strive to accomplish it all and still have time for their kids bedtime stories. I think the term "Grow up" 99% of the time means stop being an A-$$-hole!" And that 1% of the time its good advice that means "Be more mature for your childrens sakes. Do better in life for yourself." THATS WHAT I THINK. =P
