As an adult i know many adults who act worse than children on a regular basis and certainly dont act grown up ..Usually people who tell others to grow up need a great deal of growing up to do ..

Having a job doesn't make you mature

Having kids does not make you mature

Paying bills does not make you mature

What then does it mean to be grown up ?

  1. It is their expression of disappointment that you have different priorities and values than they.

  2. growing up is beeing taller taking more responsibilities and taking more pressure

  3. become more responsible, look before they take they're next step.

  4. I am 38 years old, and the mother of three children ages 17 1/2, 14, and 10 years of age. There are times when I have to confess to my husband that I need to grow up. It is during those times when I admit that I was being  selfish, self-centered, and urealistic.

If I don't get up and go to work on time, I am being immature. If I don't set the right example for my children, I am being immature. If I go buy new clothes, eat out instead of cook the food in my house, and gamble my money away at the casino, instead of pay my bills, I am immature. If I cannot grasp the reality of the fact that I am not a child, and should not act as a child, and that nobody is going to carry my load for me in life, then I need to grow up.

Denzel Washington said it best, "we do what we have to do so we can do what we want to do."

So basically, if you know what you are supposed to do, and you choose not to do it, then you need to grow up.

  5. it just means that they need to start acting more mature.

  6. Grown up means to you can take on more responsibilities. You do have to be mature! If they tell you to grow up they mean don't act sooo childish! That's one thing I hate about life Growing Up!!!

  7. Being mature, and having an understanding of people and the world.. I guess?

  8. growing up means to not act like an idiot you look cool or make fun of people to their faces, when people do those things it causes people to say " man grow up"

    haha, i hope i helped!

  9. pubic hair.

  10. It means stop being a jackass and get with the program. Or it could mean, you're just d**n immature..you think you're a 3 year old. You dress, act, talk, or think in a way that's WAY too immature for your age. For example, not knowing when to shut your mouth at the appropriate time and commenting on everything.

  11. BLASPHEMY!!

never believe it when someone says to grow up!! people who are older generally are in a higher position in society so they get all smug and act like anyone below them don't know anything!!

that's why all the stupid politicians try to regulate popular media and pass laws that charges taxes on songs downloaded on iTunes and blame the Virginia tech shooting on video games!!

  12. Be responsible.

  13. behaving responsibly is to be mature

  14. do all of those things that u said but also add not acting like a jerk or stupid all the time.

  15. To act responsibly toward yourself and others, to not judge others for their mistakes but to work on you own, not to get angry, jealous or resentful of others and be happy with what you have.  Don't expect hand outs in the world, work to get what you want.

Your right all those other things don't make you a grownup.

  16. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for your own actions and not letting others pay for your immaturity.

  17. To act more mature then you usually do in an everyday basis.

Like the one thing that you do usually that isn't very...mature-like.

Very hard to explain, but very easy to understand.

  18. It means stop acting immature.. stop playing around.. be serious. Dont act like a child.

  19. It means to stop acting so immature, thats what i think it means. Your right about the whole having kids, paying bills etc. doesnt make you mature. Idk what does really. I guess your actions and how you treat people.

  20. being able to over come problems and obstacles that come in your way, maturity comes with experiences you gain in life. when a man whines about everything or runs when theirs something he can't solve his is not grown up and needs a parent or somebody watching him and taking care of himself. maturity is seen different ways by alot of different people so just learn everything you can and try not to get a big head when something good happens to you. just be mature about it. remember maturity takes time and alot of life experience.

  21. It means to become more mature minded.  You know, like hanging out with people of the same age and having a meaningful discusion rather than playing football with the younger boys.  I know one guy who is in his 30's that does that and has been told to grow up many times.

I don't think you have to be "grown up" at all times - you should still have fun at times but you need to know the time and place for each.

I am assuming you are talking about others and not yourself, right?

  22. to be able to have a situation, in which a child would act differently than an adult, and you behave as the adult would, not the child.

  23. maybe your immature your being silly or acting like a kid,. sometimes ppl use this word as a expression,. when someone tell you to grow up just ask what do you mean by that please explain because you like to know,.

  24. It means to grow up in your thoughts in what you perform daily in life.

  25. When saying "grow up" they mean just start acting more mature. It's true all of those things don't mean your mature, but they show some signs of being mature. Having a job and paying bills means your taking on some sort of responsibility, which is a sign of growing up. Basically In my opinion, I would say growing up means learning from your mistakes, and using them to help better yourself. You could still be a kid at heart, but be  mature and grown up at the same time. I would know =P

  26. Being Responsible and knowing whats right and wrong is being grown up

  27. It means be like the billions of people out there living boring lives.Go to work,Have some coffee, eat, sleep,go to work, have some coffee, eat, sleep, and over and over again.

Nothing about acting your age? I mean is there a manual on how 14 year olds should act? No,so how is somebody supposed to act their age.please somebody answer that it is my dying to question.

  28. It is a  combination of  doing  the right  thing,  being polite, helping  others, paying  debts, not  hurting  others, being a  good  example to younger  persons, staying  out of  trouble and if  can't then pay  the due for your actions.

  29. Well, all of those things require you to be more mature. You need to be mature, discipline your children properly, don't slack off at work, and pay your bills on time or early. Just having a job does not make you mature, but doing a GOOD job, and being punctual and assertive does. Having kids does not make you mature, but raising your kids right and disciplining them does. Paying bills does not make you mature, but paying them early or on time does. You just have to be assertive. Do more than 100%.  Children skimp on chores, or do the minimum. Adults should strive to accomplish it all and still have time for their kids bedtime stories. I think the term "Grow up" 99% of the time means stop being an A-$$-hole!" And that 1% of the time its good advice that means "Be more mature for your childrens sakes. Do better in life for yourself." THATS WHAT I THINK. =P

  30. act your age.

  31. Be mature. Act mature. Act your age, not your shoe size. Be responsible.
