What does it mean when someone tees up your ball?

I teed off and didn't see someone in the trees until after it fell. When I walked up to it, the person that I almost hit had put the ball on a tee. My friends and I wondered if it meant anything.

  1. I don't think it means anything....I think he was just a courteuos golfer doing a nice thing, as the ball probably landed somewhere very near to where he was and he probably assumed you may not see it, so he was just being considerate.....either that or it means you're cursed to have nightmares for the next seven days of seeing the video of John Daly golfing shirtless running on a constant loop while your eyelids are taped open.

  2. It has absolutely no meaning except that you may have almost hit a person and never gave a warning of the wayward shot. Maybe he was saying " Better etiquette in the future".  So in a gross tournament you would mark the spot with a couple of tees a club length apart, drop your ball so that it is no closer to the green and hit the next shot. So learn the etiquette, read up on the Rules of  Golf , and enjoy the game.

  3. Say I had to hit out of the trees and while waiting for others on the next tee to finish their shot, one of their balls landed nearby. Whether I slice it terribly or hole it, I may get a cheap tee from my bag and leave an early Christmas gift for the other guy.

  4. Probably he's trying to be cute.

  5. He probably just put it there so you could find it. Maybe the ball landed on a tall grass or something and he just felt you wouldnt be able to find it so he did you a favor.... who knows!

    Good luck
