My home air conditioning unit has a light on the control panel that is labeled "purge". It is blinking. What does that mean? Also when we turn the air conditioner on, no air blows out.

  1. Heating systems often go thru a purge cycle prior to the gas valve turning on to clear the combustion chamber and prove the vent system.  Have never heard of purge on an ac.

  2. It could mean many things, an experienced service tech will be able to ferret this out.

  3. Sounds like you need to clean the filter or the unit is frozen up turn on the inside fan to on and see if after two hours the air flow does not improve. Air in the seal system sounds far fetched.

  4. It sounds like air or moisture may have gotten into your refrigerant system. Probably through a leaking or faulty hose or valve.

Air is a contaminant of refrigerant that can enter an A/C system and create A/C performance problems. Air, when mixed with refrigerant, changes the pressure of that gas and causes an A/C system to exhibit poor cooling properties.

Purging, from what I understand, is not a simple task and requires renting a special pump for the purpose.

Call the manufacturer of your conditioner to find out what you need to do.
