I try turning on the garbage disposal and it sounds like the motor doesnt want to run or it died out.

I am thinking something is stuck in it, but please clear it up for me.

  1. Do not turn this thing on with your hand in it!!!! If it still buzzes a little chances are that theres a spoon stuck in it or the bearing is bad.  Get a rubber glove or better yet a handle of some sort of utensil and see if the spinning thing turns freely .

  2. If the grinding wheel is stuck you can often free it by sticking a broom handle (or something similar) down into the disposal. Fit the broom handle into one of the grinding slots and while applying downward pressure try the rotate the grinding wheel. Do this by placing the broom handle into a grinding wheel slot at about the two o'clock position and then while pushing down pull the handle towards the six o'clock position. Once it turnes free, try again to run the disposal.

If no action, check the red reset button usually found on the bottom or side of the disposal. Push it in and again try to run the disposal.

If you  suspect or see a foreign object (spoon, fork, etc.) down in the disposal do not try to reach in to get it out until you have turned off the circuit breaker to the disposal.

  3. you have a jammed disposer. the is a hole at the bottom of the disposer that you insert the key and turn it to unjam it. if you dont have the key an allen wrench will also work. turn it a few times until you free it up then unplug the disposer. put you hand inside it and pullout whatever it was that was jamming it up

  4. somethjing could be stuck , like a penny .

use a broom handle  to push down and turn it . itll loosen object . under disposal should be a reset button.

  5. Most garbage disposals have a allen type wrench that fits in the center of the very bottom of the garbage disposal , sometimes the disposal gets jammed some times it just needs some persuasion to do its job . you can use a regular allen wrench   just find the right size about 1/4 inch or so  give it a few turns and see what happens. you access the hole from under the unit
