  1. the chicken was having a period

  2. The yolk was female and started to menstruate. Don't let a bear near it.

  3. it means that the egg was starting to develop into an embryo. usually they catch these and you don't get them in store bought eggs, but sometimes it happens in farm eggs. i always just throw them away, or give them to the dog.

  4. It should have been found at the hatchery and discarded. Don't eat it.

  5. Eggs with a visible blood spot on the yolk are safe for consumption. The spot can be removed with the tip of a knife. Blood or "meat" spots are occasionally found on an egg yolk. These tiny spots are not harmful and are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel during formation of the egg. Blood spots do not indicate a fertilized egg. Mass candling methods reveal most blood spots and those eggs are removed, but even with electronic spotters, it is impossible to catch all of them. If desired, the spot can be removed with the tip of a clean knife prior to cooking. These eggs are safe to eat.

  6. The egg was fertilized, and had it been left with it's mother hen or put into a hatchery, it would have made a baby chicken.  Many people believe that eating fertilized eggs is bad for a person, but I've talked to many farmers who eat both fertilized chicken and duck eggs, and they say they're just fine as long as you don't see a 'baby bird' in the egg.  I know it's gross, but I've seen that happen when a person was getting ready to bake bread ... and it was gross ... but there was nothing to do but throw that egg and it's contents away and get a fresh egg out to make the bread.

  7. my husband grew up on a farm, & says it means the egg has been fertailzed, & left under the chicken too long
