  1. A van is any truck with only 2 axles.  It drives like a pickup, and does not have a detachable trailer.

  2. A van can mean anything from a cargo van IE: Ford E-150 to a 53' box trailer.

A tractor trailer trailer that is just a big  box on wheels is called a van.

If not refrigerated it's called a dry van.
