  1. Strep is not the only bug that can cause swollen tonsils. Even if the strep test was negative the patient may still have a bacterial infection. A viral infection can commonly cause this and that may be the reason to withold antibiotics. A this point is best to gargle with an antiseptic like Listerine, take Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Not all swollen tonsils are due to an infection.

  2. tonsilitus?

  3. I had the exact same symptoms last month. The doctor said it was acute rhino- pharyngitis. He gave me antibiotics and it cleared up in about a week.

  4. It sounds more like tonsillitis. Did the doctor say they looked enlarged? Did the doctor give him any medication? If he has a fever something is going on. I hope you can get some help. It's hard to tell you anything without seeing him or knowing more.

  5. You have an infection.  Take some vitamins, eat healthily, take an aspirin for the fever and get plenty of rest.

  6. He has tonsillitis. Strep throat is tonsillitis caused by streptococcus, a bacteria. He probably just has another bacteria causing the tonsillitis. Just ask your doctor to check for another bacteria

  7. Its a viral infection. Go back and get tested for mono.

  8. tonsilitis

  9. It could be infectious mononucleosis (mono).  Mono has a lot of the same symptoms as strep but would not generate a positive strep test result.
