  1. a 'hot walker' is just a atmatick horse walker

  2. There are two kinds of hot walkers one is a machine that goes around in a circle that horses are hooked up to that cools horses out and the other is a stable hand who hand walks horses around the shedrow or walking ring (designated area) cooling horses out.

  3. A stable hand who leads a horse around the shed row or walking ring in the "cooling out" process following a race or a workout. Walking hots is usually the first job given a novice stable employee.

  4. No the poster above is wrong.  A hot walker is a machine that horses are hooked onto, that makes them keep alking until they are cool.  Here is a picture of one:

I suppose it COULD be a person, though.

  5. The first poster is correct. It's like the entry level position on a racetrack. Your job is to be waiting for a horse to get back to the barn from training on the track. Even if a horse will finish cooling out on a walking machine it still needs to be hand led around the shedrow so it can can have sips of water then weather dependent hosed off before continuing to cool out either in hand or on a machine.
