What does it mean when you call a landline and it goes straight to the answer machine?

Well, they fell asleep on the phone and I hung up. So I think on the other line that they're still on the phone with me even though I hung up. I guess they're using all the lines.

They aren't HOME ~ and they have it set to go after the first ring.  OR they are on the phone, have call waiting or call forwarding direct to an answering machine which could be a computer's answering machine on their second line.  Or they have 2 lines 1 is being used by the computer and the other goes directly to the answering machine.  VOICE & DATA can be on the same landline.

Either the person is on the phone right now or they have forwarded that number right to the answering machine...possibly screening calls.

There are three posibilities

1.The phone line is dead

2.Someone is on the line

3.The calls are directly forwardred to the voice mail.
