and it blew out white smoke and it smelled of really strong gas? I drive a 97 cadillac catera and it only has 83,000 miles on it. Never had any problems, check engine light came on and i got it checked and they said it was an O2 sensor. I am scared to drive it. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas??

  1. Well you could have a bad O2 sensor causing your computer to think its running really lean and dump fuel but the white smoke is burning coolant. Burning coolant usually means a blown head gasket. I would get tnat fixed before driving it anymore.

  2. White smoke is usually indicative of a blown head gasket...bring your vehicle to a service center asap.

Just because an o2 sensor code came up doesn't mean its the o2.  Go now, and don't throw parts at the problem!

    Good luck!

    Ok then...take it to a shop...ASAP!

  3. change the o2 sensor, they are cheap and you can do it yourself or have someone you know that is good around cars do it.

  4. the 0-2 sensor will cause it to run a lot richer on gas and could cause it to die out at certain times, unless you replace it you,ll never know for sure, and you will also suffer poor has mileage with a bad 0-2 sensor,on one, good luck.
