  1. If you are a member of his household - meaning living there on a permanent basis, then your belongings are covered under his HO insurance.  You are considered a "resident relative."

    If you are temporarily living in your father household i.e., in between residences, then you are not covered, as you are not a premanent resident.

    If you are living in your father's house, yet he does not - for example, if you are paying rent to live there, then you would not be and would have to secure "Renter's insurance."

    Hope that helps

  2. Your name is on the policy for one of three reasons:

    1. You are one of the Named Insureds meaning you have part title in the house;

    2. You are a loss payee which means you loaned money to your dad who agreed to put you down as a lienholder on title;

    3. Your dad asked the insurer to add you as Additional Insured to extend contents and/or liability coverage because you were over a certain age and still living at home and your father forgot to remove you when you moved out.

    Those are the only reasons I can think of.

  3. Since you don't live at his house you should only be on the insurance if you are on the deed (you have ownership in the house).  Then, you should be an additional insured which gives you premises liability (that house only) and dwelling coverage.  You would have no contents coverage & no coverage for where you are living (you need to have a tenants or homeowners policy for the location where you reside).

    If you are on the policy with no insurable interest (meaning no ownership in the house), any claim made by you will probably be denied.  If it is a small claim, the company may or may not check the ownership of the house & issue any claim check in both of your names, if it is a large claim, or a liability claim, the company probably will check.
