  1. There are 500 shares being offered at 2,90

So if you buying, you will cost 2.90 for at least 500 shares

LILPJ is dead wrong with that response as well JAY

  2. The Asking price is not something to be think about when buying a share because it only states the price which people want to sell it at. The Bid price however is what price you buy the stock at. if your still concerned however the $2.90 stands for the price at which people are asking to buy the stock. Generally this is higher then the normal stock price. And the x500 means that some is buying 500 of those shares.

  3. The asking price is the price that someone wants to sell there stock back to the company at which is the $2.90. The x500 means that someone else has bought 500 shares of the company at that price. If you want to buy a stock you should look at the bid price.

  4. Jay actually managed to get exactly everything wrong.

The company itself is not involved.

If you are buying, then you are the bidder and you are buying from a seller, so what you're interested in IS the asking price.

ASK $2.90x500 means that one or more sellers are asking 2.90 per share and there are a total of 500 shares available at that price.

  5. If the ask price is 2.90 for the 500 shares, you can usually pick it up at a bid of 2.89 or 2.88.  If the market is falling into the afternoon trade, I would put in a bid around 2.84 at 2:30 and go to 2.88 at 3:30 if it has not filled.  Look at the the volume in making  a bid.  The greater the volume, the better the chances of getting in a lower price.  Most Important:  ask how badly you want to own the stock.  Most pros dont rx. buying stocks below $10.00 in price.   But, that is another matter.
