  1. hi there well let me give you an example:  I  appreciated  that you ask me to the movies but I'll take a (rain chq ) meaning I'll go  another time.   or    When you go to the supermarket like ( path mark) and the item they have in special is not in stock the store gives you a rain check for that item so that when you come back another day and the item is in it's regular price you will get it at the special price they had it before with that rain check .   god bless

  2. A rain check is basically a way of saying you want something or want to do something, but can't at the moment.  It's a way of saying that it needs to be rescheuled for later :)

  3. just a side note... whilst the proper/traditional way of "taking a rain check" means that the speaker wants to take up the offer on a separate ocassion, it has been commonly used in date speak to say "gosh i don't really wanna hang out with you but there's no other way to say no, so i'll take a rain check for the time being, and also the next time you ask me".

so check on the tone of the person who tells you "thanks but i'll take a rain check on it".

  4. This is a courteous American idiom that means the person appreciates your offer but will have to wait to accept it. The phrase's history actually comes from American baseball. When Americans went to a baseball game and it was "rained out" (meaning the game was canceled due to rain, every attendee received a "rain check" that allowed them to attend another, future game.  If you offer a rain check to someone, it means you'll honor your offer at a later date. This person took it on him- or herself to ask for a commitment from you for a future, similar offer. Hope they are worth it :)

  5. It means that you asked someone over for coffee or something and they declined your offered but was pleased about it and said "No sorry i can't but I'll take a raincheck" which means that they will take you up on that offer some other time :)

    Should make you understand better

  6. Taking a rain check is a polite refusal to an invitation to do something, but usually indicates strong emphasis on agreeing to it next time, or another time more convenient.

It's an American term which baffled me until recently when I looked it up.

  7. people would save their money for a 'rainy' day.  in an agricultural community, people would have to work hard farming and tending to the livestock, etc.  their leasure days were dependent on the weather basically.  so, on those days, they would go into town and shop...........thus the saving for a rainy day.  out of this idea comes, i'll take a rain check.  it just is a more convenient time to do something that one has been invited to do.  it shows that there is interest in doing it, but, that the timing is not good for them at the present moment.

    good luck!
