What is the definition of a being a court lady in asia. This was a long time ago in asia , it is not a modern thing , i think

  1. It would probably vary a great deal depending on what court you were attached to.  court ladies would normally be in attendance on the Queen or other royal ladies like the King's daughters or sisters perhaps.  Normally they would be ladies of upper-class families.

    If you want to read an account of what it was like to be a court lady in Japan in about the year 1000, I recommend a wonderful book called 'the Pillow Book of Sei Shonagan' which was written by a Japanese court lady at this time.  It is a really fascinating book.
