the word 'underprivileged' is used without much thought nowadays.

and no, i don't think its about lacking the latest tech devices and not enough money to buy a 'want' item. the most thought provoking and sensible answers win my vote, thank you.

  1. not being able to afford food and shelter is underprivilaged. not being able to afford cable tv and high speed internet is just motivation to work harder, and become educated.

  2. The word is not generally used by people in the sector in the UK any more. We generally refer to people being disadvantaged - either by being unemployed, poor education, by race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or age. It means that those people do not have access to services and opportunities which the general population enjoys.

I agree, it is nothing to do with being able to afford an i-pod.

  3. when the healthiest meal you can buy is a pack of cupcakes over at the 7-11

  4. To live economically and socially below the standard.

  5. To put it bluntly and simply, if you have no place to call home and 3 squares a day in that home.   Other lacks kind of fall short of that.

No one in this country should be underprivileged!
